People seek truth to bring balance to their lives. Truth in its purest form cannot be warped or subdued. It is not the fictitious truth showcased in the abusers’ reality shows. It is not the truth spewed forth by the flying monkeys’ verbally abusive repertoire, or the initial churches’ judgmental truth.
Truth can exist on its own accord without explanations or rationalizations. As Aristotle, a renowned Greek philosopher, epitomized more than a thousand years ago, “truth without influence is the truth that we seek”.
Dante’s AC “Inferno,” which is Italian for ‘Hell,’ is a story of Dante’s journey through Hell, escorted by the ancient Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, Hell is depicted as nine concentric circles of torment located within the Earth. Allegorically, Dante’s journey represents the journey of the soul toward God. But in Dante’s book, the abusers were trapped in the circles of hell they created themselves by their own free will.
This is a story is about a soul who was dragged unwillingly through the pits of Hell, experiencing one circle at a time. It was like a twisted video game that this poor soul could not emerge from until the awakening.
Once awoken, the soul painstakingly climbs rung by rung out of the dark abyss. She is constantly being dragged back down by unseen hands of death and despair. Some are not so fortunate; some never make it out alive. Narcissistic abuse over many years can wreak havoc on a person’s body, mind and soul. The life force is being systematically and purposefully sucked out of the target. Some targets succumb to suicide, some to diseases like cancer and lymphoma. Rest in peace to my dear friend, Jan.
